Pak Choi — also known as Bok Choy, Chinese Cabbage (loose head type) or पाक चोई / चीनी गोभी — is an exotic leafy vegetable from the Brassicaceae family, native to China. This Brassica rapa subsp. chinensis variety grows 20–30 cm tall with an upright rosette habit and is ready to harvest in 40–55 days. Harvest profile: white stem with dark green leaves; upright rosette with spoon-shaped leaves; 20–25 cm tall. Key highlights: fast-growing F1 hybrid pak choi seeds, ideal for stir-fry greens.

This pack of F1 hybrid seeds delivers 80–90% germination, with seedlings appearing in 4–7 days. Beginner-friendly and low maintenance, Pak Choi grows well on Indian terraces, balconies, raised beds and kitchen gardens. It needs full sun to partial shade, loamy, fertile, well-drained, moisture retentive soil (pH 6.0–7.0) and moderate-high watering. For container growing, use Geo Fabric Circular Grow Bags or HDPE Rectangular Grow Bags — recommended size: 10x10 inch grow bag.

Sow Pak Choi in India during September–November and February–March (Rabi & Zaid season), when temperatures sit around 15–23°C. Plants keep producing for one-time or cut-and-come-again over 2–3 weeks, with an expected yield of 150–300 g per plant. It is perfect for stir-fries, soups, steaming, salads and ramen/noodle dishes. Grow it alongside radish, carrot, onion and spinach, plus flowers such as marigold and nasturtium — nasturtium acts as trap crop for aphids; marigold deters pests. Looking for a similar crop? See our Lettuce Romaine (सलाद पत्ते) Seeds.

Rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, calcium. Exotic vegetables like pak choi are expensive and hard to find fresh in local markets, but they are surprisingly easy to grow at home from seed. Best in cool months across plains; grows year-round in hill regions. Well-suited states include Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, West Bengal, Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Should I sow Pak Choi seeds directly or transplant seedlings?

Recommended method: Direct Sow or Transplant. Start seeds in a nursery tray and transplant at 3–4 weeks old seedlings (if transplanted).

Why are my Pak Choi seeds not germinating?
