Fennel (Saunf) — also known as Sweet Fennel or सौंफ — is a culinary and medicinal herb from the Apiaceae family, native to Mediterranean region. This Foeniculum vulgare variety forms an upright plant about 3–5 feet (90–150 cm) tall, with feathery leaves, hard seeds and a sweet, anise-like fragrance. Its flavour is sweet and anise/licorice-like, making it a kitchen-garden essential for spice mixes, mouth freshener, curries and bread.

This pack of open pollinated seeds delivers 65–80% germination, with seedlings appearing in 10–14 days. Beginner-friendly and low maintenance, Fennel (Saunf) grows well on Indian terraces, balconies, raised beds and kitchen gardens. It needs full sun (6+ hrs/day), well-drained sandy loam soil (pH 6.0–7.5) and moderate watering. For container growing, use Geo Fabric Circular Grow Bags or HDPE Rectangular Grow Bags — recommended size: 8x8 inch or 10x10 inch grow bag/pot minimum.

Sow Fennel (Saunf) in India during October–December (Rabi season), when temperatures sit around 15–25°C. Harvest leaves: ongoing; seeds: once at maturity (90–100 days) — cut seed heads when brown and dry; pick leaves as needed; regrowth potential is leaves regrow after cutting; seed harvest is once per season. It also makes a soothing herbal tea. Traditional uses: post-meal digestive aid (mukhwas) in India. Build a complete herb corner by pairing it with our Parsley (Cress Curled) Seeds and Basil Green (तुलसी) Seeds.

Fresh-cut fennel has far more aroma than dried store-bought herbs, and a single pot keeps giving harvests for months. Because it is open pollinated, you can also save seeds for the next season. Non-GMO, untreated seeds with a shelf life of 12–18 months from packaging when stored properly — ideal for home cooks, herb gardeners and terrace growers across India.
