Desi Pepper Hot Bhaji — also known as Desi Mirch, Bhaji Mirch or देसी मिर्च — is an exotic fruit vegetable and leafy green (dual use) from the Solanaceae family, native to Central/South America; naturalised in India. This Capsicum annuum variety grows 45–90 cm tall with a bushy habit and is ready to harvest in 80–100 days. Harvest profile: green to red; small, slender, tapering pod; 3–6 cm long. Key highlights: traditional Indian desi hot pepper seeds, dual purpose for leaves (bhaji) and pods.

This pack of open pollinated seeds (heirloom) delivers 70–80% germination, with seedlings appearing in 10–18 days. Beginner-friendly and low maintenance, Desi Pepper Hot Bhaji grows well on Indian terraces, balconies, raised beds and kitchen gardens. It needs full sun (6–8 hrs), loamy to sandy loam, well-drained soil (pH 6.0–7.0) and moderate watering. For container growing, use Geo Fabric Circular Grow Bags or HDPE Rectangular Grow Bags — recommended size: 10x10 inch grow bag.

Sow Desi Pepper Hot Bhaji in India during June–July (main) / Feb–March (nursery), when temperatures sit around 20–30°C. Plants keep producing for 10–14 weeks (leaves earlier, pods later), with an expected yield of 100–150 g leaves + 50–80 pods per plant per season. It is perfect for mirchi bhaji/saag, pickles, chutneys and tempering. Grow it alongside onion, coriander and brinjal, plus flowers such as marigold — marigold helps repel aphids and nematodes near pepper plants. Looking for a similar crop? See our Pepper Red Cherry (लाल चेरी मिर्च) Seeds.

Good source of Vitamin C, Vitamin A, capsaicin, iron (leaves). Exotic vegetables like desi pepper hot bhaji are expensive and hard to find fresh in local markets, but they are surprisingly easy to grow at home from seed. Well adapted to Indian Kharif conditions; widely grown as traditional crop. Well-suited states include Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka.
