Apple Blossom Tree — also known as Pink Shower Tree or Java Cassia — is an ornamental flowering tree from the Fabaceae family, native to Assam through Southeast Asia to Papuasia. Raised from these Cassia javanica seeds, it grows into a semi-deciduous to deciduous tree reaching about 10–20 m with a broad, spreading canopy and a spread of about 6–12 m. These are natural, untreated flowering tree seeds for home garden, landscape and ornamental tree growing. Its blooms in shades of pink and pale pink make it a standout landscape tree wherever it is planted.

Each pack contains 10 g of seeds with a germination rate of about 60–80% under suitable conditions, and seedlings typically emerge in about 2–4 weeks (14–30 days). Rated moderate to raise from seed, Apple Blossom Tree responds best when you lightly scarify the hard seed coat and soak seeds in water before sowing. Start seeds in nursery trays or Geo Fabric Circular Grow Bags filled with a light, well-draining mix, then shift healthy seedlings to a spot with full sun to partial sun and fertile, well-drained soil (pH 5.5–7.5). A Small Stainless Steel Trowel makes lifting and transplanting young seedlings easy without disturbing the roots.

The ideal sowing window in India is February–September, during the spring to monsoon window, when warm 20–35°C temperatures support quick, even germination. Apple Blossom Tree suits urban planting, avenue and roadside planting, landscaping, agroforestry and farm and boundary planting across tropical & subtropical zones. Traditional uses have been reported; not intended for medicinal use. Timber value is rated limited / secondary. Planning a mixed plantation? Pair it with our Cassia Fistula (Golden Shower Tree Seeds) for staggered seasonal interest.

Beyond its beauty, Apple Blossom Tree provides tree cover, flowers and habitat value, has carbon sequestration potential rated moderate to high as a mature tree, and provides habitat and floral resources. Growing from seed is the most economical way to establish several saplings at once, and it lets the young tree adapt to your local soil and climate from day one — ideal for home gardeners, farm owners, schools, CSR plantation drives and landscape projects.

How to Grow Apple Blossom Tree from Seed

Apple Blossom Tree Sowing Season in India

Sow in the spring to monsoon window, ideally February–September, at 20–35°C. Avoid cold winter sowing, when germination slows sharply. Suits tropical and subtropical climates.

Seed Preparation

Lightly scarify the hard seed coat and soak seeds in water before sowing. Discard shrivelled or hollow seeds. Regional guidance: ICFRE.

Sowing Apple Blossom Tree Seeds

  • Method: Nursery / Seed Tray Sowing; direct sowing: yes
  • Mix: garden soil, cocopeat and compost, well-drained
  • Depth: cover with a thin layer, about twice the seed's thickness
  • Germination: about 2–4 weeks (14–30 days)
  • Keep warm and evenly moist; mist with a 1 L Spray Pump

Transplanting and Spacing

Transplant healthy seedlings after establishment into a sunny, well-drained location. Spacing: about 5–8 m (mature spread about 6–12 m). Containers: suitable only when young; not ideal permanently.

Ongoing Care

Give full sun to partial sun and moderate water using a Watering Can. Tolerance: drought moderate once established, frost low and waterlogging low; shield seedlings from frost and standing water in year one. Growth rate is moderate; feed with compost or bio-fertilisers each monsoon.

Where to Plant Apple Blossom Tree

Best for urban planting, avenue and roadside planting, landscaping, agroforestry and farm and boundary planting. Zones: tropical & subtropical zones. States: Suitable for many warm tropical, subtropical regions; local conditions should be considered and other warm regions.

Common Problems

Slow/uneven germination, excess moisture and poor drainage. Good drainage and avoiding overwatering prevent most seedling losses.
