Purple Bell Capsicum — also known as Purple Capsicum, Purple Sweet Pepper or बैंगनी शिमला मिर्च — is an exotic fruit vegetable from the Solanaceae family, native to Central & South America. This Capsicum annuum variety grows 45–75 cm tall with a bushy habit and is ready to harvest in 75–90 days. Harvest profile: purple (green to purple to red as it ripens); blocky, bell-shaped, 3–4 lobed; 7–9 cm. Key highlights: rare colourful purple bell pepper seeds, small pack of 15 hand-selected seeds.

This pack of open pollinated seeds (heirloom) delivers 70–80% germination, with seedlings appearing in 10–15 days. Suitable for gardeners with some experience, Purple Bell Capsicum grows well on Indian terraces, balconies, raised beds and kitchen gardens. It needs full sun (6–8 hrs), loamy, rich, well-drained soil (pH 6.0–6.8) and moderate watering. For container growing, use Geo Fabric Circular Grow Bags or HDPE Rectangular Grow Bags — recommended size: 12x12 inch or larger grow bag.

Sow Purple Bell Capsicum in India during June–July (main) / Nov–Dec (protected) (Kharif & year-round in tray season), when temperatures sit around 20–28°C. Plants keep producing for 8–10 weeks, with an expected yield of 8–12 fruits per plant per season. It is perfect for salads, stir-fries, stuffed peppers, grilling and roasting. Grow it alongside tomato, basil, onion and carrot, plus flowers such as marigold and petunia — marigold repels aphids and nematodes; basil improves flavour and repels pests. Looking for a similar crop? See our Capsicum Yellow (पीली शिमला मिर्च) F1 Hybrid Seeds.

High in Vitamin C, Vitamin A, antioxidants (anthocyanins). Exotic vegetables like purple bell capsicum are expensive and hard to find fresh in local markets, but they are surprisingly easy to grow at home from seed. Grows well in Kharif season across Central & South India; needs protection in extreme heat. Well-suited states include Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal.
